Reading and Viewing

for the Student of

Fly Casting

The value of good instructional books and videos, weighed against their cost, never ceases to astound me. For a nominal fee, an acknowledged authority will come into your home (via your television or the printed word) and instruct you in his or her field of expertise. For less than the price of a fly line, Joan Wulff or Mel Krieger will show you how to use a fly rod. Think about that for a minute! Although I believe a student of fly casting should read and watch anything she can get her hands on that deals with the subject, the flycasting works I’ve listed below have been the most influential in my own development—and I’ve also listed one of my own works, as well. Bear in mind that video can show you a good cast, but you need a book to truly explain how it’s done. One thing is certain: the more you know about fly casting, the more you can learn about fly casting.
