Answer: C. Thirty correct answers are required on the 36-question written test.
The official CI Exam page publishes the paper’s shape: 36 multiple-choice or true/false questions, and thirty correct answers to pass. The number is a fixed pass mark, not an estimate from how hard the paper feels or how many questions you usually get right in practice.
Read it as a breadth test. The questions cover casting mechanics, fly tackle, knots and teaching, and a candidate has to choose between close options across all four. A study plan that lives in one chapter leaves the rest of the paper unguarded. The CI Study Guide is the material FFI points candidates at, and its breadth matches the paper’s.
Keep the written test in proportion, too. It is one part of an exam that also includes the workshop and the performance exam; thirty correct answers clears the written gate and nothing more. The casting and the teaching still have to be demonstrated in person.
